The Aurukun Boat Ramp,
located on Mackenzie Drive, is the go-to spot for launching into the Watson
River. This two-lane concrete ramp is suitable for small to medium-sized boats
and can be used in all tide conditions. However, during high tide, the chances
of spotting large crocodiles near the ramp increase; so staying croc-wise is a
must!
Since the Watson River
is home to many crocs, boaters should always be alert when launching and
retrieving their boats. It’s not uncommon to see them lurking nearby, making
for a thrilling yet cautious experience.
There’s plenty of
parking available in the wide concrete cark park across the ramp, so finding a
spot for your car and trailer won’t be an issue. On either side of the ramp, a
spacious sandy shoreline makes it easy to beach small boats if needed.
There are sheltered
picnic areas within the ramp where visitors can enjoy the area.
Beyond the crocs, the
area is also a haven for birdwatchers, with a variety of bird species calling
the region home. The whole setting is serene and scenic, offering a peaceful
escape into nature: fresh air, open waters, and the occasional crocodile
floating by. Whether you're boating, birdwatching, or simply taking in the wild
beauty, the Aurukun Boat Ramp provides a truly unique outdoor experience.
