Located near the Baudin Beach Lookout on the north coast of Kangaroo Island’s Dudley Peninsula, the Baudin Beach Boat Ramp provides a convenient launching point for local boaters and visitors looking to explore the surrounding coastal waters. The facility features a single-lane concrete boat ramp that launches directly into the ocean and is best suited to fair-weather conditions, as it does not offer all-weather access.
Boaters should be aware that water depth can become limited at low tide, and the ramp has a 5-tonne load limit. While no pontoon is available, mooring bollards have been installed to assist with launching and retrieving vessels.
The ramp underwent a significant upgrade in 2023, improving both durability and accessibility. Initiated by the Baudin Beach Progress Association, the upgrade was designed to provide safer and more reliable water access for the local community.
The area surrounding the ramp offers more than just boating facilities. Adjacent to the launch area is a striking copper sculpture commemorating Mary Beckwith, recognised as the first recorded European woman to set foot on South Australian soil. Visitors will also find public toilets, a sheltered bus stop, seating areas, and a large car and trailer parking area.
Adding to the appeal of the location is the secluded beach beside the ramp, providing a quiet place to relax, enjoy the coastal scenery, or take a stroll before or after a day on the water. Baudin Beach is a pleasant destination for both recreational boaters and visitors exploring Kangaroo Island.
