The Bayswater Boat Ramp is located within Claughton Reserve on Katanning Street, in the riverside suburb of Bayswater, northeast of Perth’s CBD. This single-lane concrete ramp includes a floating pontoon, which serves both for launching and retrieving boats, and can also be used for land-based fishing.
It’s a convenient spot for accessing the winding stretches of the Swan River, particularly for small to medium-sized vessels. That said, boaters should keep an eye out for sandbanks and shallow areas nearby. It’s also worth noting that launching personal watercraft (PWCs) is not permitted at this ramp.
Parking is somewhat limited, with only a small number of designated spaces for cars and trailers. On busy days, especially weekends and public holidays, these can fill up quickly, so arriving early is advised. That said, there is a long driveway and an open grassed area at the entrance to the facility, which can sometimes accommodate overflow parking for trailers.
While the ramp benefits from some ambient lighting from nearby river infrastructure, making early morning or evening use possible, there is no dedicated lighting in the main trailer parking area after retrieval.
The surrounding Claughton Reserve offers a calm, welcoming environment. It’s a pleasant place to spend the day, whether you're heading out solo or with family and friends. Facilities include picnic shelters with BBQ stations, shaded seating, a children’s playground, and public toilets. The reserve is also dog-friendly, ideal for a walk with your pet. For those with kids or simply young at heart; there’s a BMX track on site as well.
Do be mindful of mosquitoes, especially around dawn and dusk, as they tend to be active in the area.
