Bert Dix Park Boat Ramp

The Bert Dix Park Boat Ramp, set within the Bert Dix Memorial Park in Paringa, is the only formal concrete ramp available in town. It features a single concrete lane with constructed sides that make loading and unloading a little easier. While the ramp is suitable for most users, its narrow approach and angled design can be challenging for larger boats.

The concrete surface is in fair condition, though wake boat waves can sometimes be an issue. Overall, it’s reliable for regular use, and with future upgrades, it could better serve the community.

Parking is somewhat limited. The sealed car and trailer area is unlined and shared with park visitors, which can make it tricky during peak times. A small section is available for self-contained RVs, though spaces are few and depend on vehicle size. Still, the location is appealing, as it is right beside the grassy parklands overlooking the Murray River. Public toilets are a short walk away, and the local pub is only a couple of kilometres away for visitors who like to dine out.

Bert Dix Memorial Park is a popular riverside reserve that’s well-equipped with amenities including picnic shelters, BBQs, a playground, and plenty of shade. The park is often used for family outings as well as small private gatherings such as weddings, reunions, and memorial services.

One of the highlights here is the view of the historic Paringa Bridge, a narrow lift-span bridge that carries the Sturt (A1) Highway across the Murray. The bridge is raised for river traffic at 9:30am and 2:30pm daily (bookings essential and dependent on vessel movement), making it an attraction in its own right.

For those wanting to explore further, the Lock 5 Loop Trail can be accessed from the park. The trail leads down to Lock 5 before looping back towards Renmark, offering a great way to combine boating or a riverside stay with some light walking.

All in all, Bert Dix Park offers a practical boat ramp with scenic surroundings, making it a handy launch point for the Murray River as well as a pleasant place to relax, picnic, or stay overnight if you’re travelling in a motorhome.
