The Black Point Boat Ramp is a single concrete launch facility situated at the western end of Black Point Drive, next to the Black Point Caravan & Camping Grounds. It is located on the eastern side of the Yorke Peninsula.
It provides convenient access to the waters near St. Vincent Gulf and to the Windara Reef, the first shellfish reef restoration in South Australia and the largest in the country. Fishing is not permitted at this location, and all jet skis operators must have the necessary registration and licensing to use their vessels in South Australia.
The ramp is suitable for launching boats during high tide, but at low tide, the edge of the ramp barely reaches the water. Please note that a fee is required to use the ramp. Currently, there are no useful amenities available on-site. However, the parking area is spacious and includes designated trailer parking. It is advisable to plan trips accordingly and check the tidal conditions prior to visiting the ramp.
The Caravan Park located next to the ramp has only 13 sites (powered and tent sites). It features a new amenities block with showers separate from the toilets, as well as a washer and dryer. There is a camp kitchen equipped with a gas cooktop, although there is no dump point available.
Most of the sites face the sea and offer easy access to the nearby beach. The area also has walking trails, is dog-friendly, and includes defibrillators for emergency use. Campfires are permitted during the designated season.
You can walk in shallow water to catch blue swimmer crabs, dive for scallops close to shore, or fish for garfish, Tommy Ruffs, and King George whiting. You can also just relax and enjoy your time here at the Black Point beach.
