Buffalo Creek Ramp at
Lee Point is a go-to spot for fishing, boating, birdwatching, and peaceful
beach strolls. Whether you’re hitting the water or just soaking in the scenery,
this recreation area has something for everyone.
The ramp itself is a
two-lane concrete setup that offers direct and easy access to the water. But
timing is key; you’ll need a tide of at least 4 metres to launch, as a sandbar
at the creek’s mouth can block navigation. On the flip side, high tides can completely
submerge the ramp, so plan accordingly!
For those bringing a
boat and trailer, there’s a fenced 24-hour secure parking area next to the
kiosk, with after-hours access available. A few extra car spots are located at
the top of the ramp, but keep in mind that this area isn’t secured.
Need last-minute
supplies? The kiosk just a few meters from the ramp has you covered with
snacks, drinks, ice, and bait. The road to the ramp is fully sealed, with
parking areas and grassy picnic spots along the way. There’s also a large
information board by the concrete path to the beach, detailing local wildlife
and nearby beach locations.
If you’re bringing
your furry friend, remember to keep them on a leash and stick to the designated
pet-friendly areas. This stretch of beach is a crucial conservation area for
migratory birds, so it’s important to respect their habitat.
And of course, this is
crocodile country; so always stay alert. Traps are in place to remove crocs
when they’re caught, but that doesn’t mean the waters are ever completely safe.
Keep an eye on your surroundings at all times.
With plenty of shaded
areas, picnic tables, gas BBQs, and public toilets, Buffalo Creek Ramp is a
fantastic spot for a family outing. Whether you're launching a boat, casting a
line, or just unwinding by the beach, it’s a great place to spend the day.
