The Burns Bay Boat Ramp, located in Akaroa just beside Beerbarrel Beach and outside the St Helens barway, features a well-designed three-lane concrete ramp with a central jetty and additional walkways on either side for ease of access. The ramp is usable at all tide levels, though it’s worth noting that it can be exposed during northeasterly weather.
A large car park provides ample space for vehicles and trailers, and public toilets are conveniently located nearby.
The surrounding area is particularly scenic, with crystal-clear water and striking orange-tinged rocks that give the bay a unique, almost otherworldly appearance.
For families, it’s a great spot to spend the day. The Beebarrel Beach is a small, sheltered beach nearby that's ideal for kids to enjoy; the beach has soft white sand and waves that are suitable for both boogie boarding and surfing, though swimmers should be aware of a cross current and start toward the right side of the beach for a safer experience.
Whether you're launching a boat, going for a swim, or simply taking in the coastal scenery, Burns Bay is well worth a visit.
