Callala Bay Jetty and Boat Ramp

The Callala Bay Jetty and Boat Ramp, located on Boorawine Terrace near Progress Park, offers a dual-lane concrete ramp alongside a jetty. While the ramp itself is in decent condition, it’s not ideal at low tide for boats over 5 metres. Water depth drops to around 60 cm for roughly 50 metres out, making launching and retrieval difficult. The layout isn’t particularly user-friendly either; the jetty is fixed in height and sits quite high above the water, which isn’t convenient for loading or unloading passengers. Some find the gap between the ramp and the jetty can make getting a boat back onto a trailer more challenging than it needs to be.

There are a couple of ladders, but during busy times, the sailing club often ties up its tenders along the pier, limiting access for others.

On the bright side, the end of the jetty features large steps where kids often sit and dip their feet, and there’s even a resident seal that likes to sleep on the nearby rocks, which is always a highlight for families.

Facilities in the area are generally good, with adequate parking for cars and trailers, and public toilets, though the sailing club can occupy most of the parking during events. The bay itself is beautiful, with clear water, anchored boats, a nearby park, and a cycle track. Dolphins are regularly spotted cruising through the area.

The ramp features a fish-cleaning table, and the surrounding reserve offers plenty of grassy space for children to play. There are BBQ stations, picnic tables and benches, toilets, and a children's playground. The area is a clean, well-maintained spot that’s popular for fishing, leisurely walks, and taking in the scenery. The local birdlife adds to the charm; cockatoos, galahs, blue wrens, sea eagles, and cormorants are commonly seen around the bay.

Overall, it’s a pleasant location with a simple jetty and good facilities, ideal for enjoying the water and the natural surroundings.
