The Cape Jervis Boat Ramp is a key launch point for those heading to Kangaroo Island or fishing in the Backstairs Passage. Located near the SeaLink ferry terminal and across a helipad and the Cape Jervis Lighthouse, this boat ramp is frequently used by both locals and tourists.
The ramp provides efficient access to deep waters, making it suitable for larger boats and commercial fishing vessels. It features a wide, double-lane concrete ramp along with a jetty for easy boarding and a wharf for unloading passengers from the ferry. Additionally, the ramp is protected by a breakwater wall, ensuring a sheltered and adequate launch area. However, two-wheel drive vehicles should use this ramp with caution.
Parking is available nearby, with overflow areas for trailers during peak periods. There is a toilet block and additional parking near the ferry terminal.
Major infrastructure upgrades are underway at Cape Jervis Harbour in preparation for new ferries, with fenders and headstocks being delivered for installation in 2025. The 14 new fenders will protect infrastructure and ensure smoother, safer berthing by absorbing impacts, while locally manufactured headstocks will enhance structural stability. Piling works are ongoing at both locations, supporting the long-term durability of the new infrastructure.
SeaLink and the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) will carry out dredging, construct a new layby berth, install a turning dolphin, and lay preliminary foundations for a new vehicle ramp set for installation in May 2025.
Due to these upgrades, temporary access restrictions will be in place for the Cape Jervis boat ramp. From January 17 to mid-March 2025, the ramp will be closed for safety during harbour works, with additional daytime closures expected in the first half of 2025.
These improvements aim to enhance ferry operations, increase safety, and modernise the port facilities.
During the closure period, boaters can use the Wirrina Cove Marina Ramp for free to launch and retrieve vessels.
