The Clump Point public boat ramp in Mission
Beach got a major facelift in 2020, thanks to an upgrade project by the
Department of Transport and Main Roads, and the results are pretty impressive.
The revamp included a brand new extra boat ramp lane (now totalling 3 concrete
lanes), an upgraded breakwater, and improvements to the car park and turning
area. They also added a new detached breakwater, a toilet block in the southern
car park, and an access jetty to make launching and docking even smoother.
Boaters also get to enjoy two berthing
pontoons, two floating walkways, five pen berths, and six swing moorings, a big
win for anyone heading out for a day on the water. There's even a boat wash
tap, though you’ll need to bring your own hose and a tap fitting to use it.
The ramp itself is well-designed and easy
to use, but here’s the catch: the carpark has ample parking spaces, but parking
can be limited, especially for trailers, since it is a popular place for
boating activities. If the weather’s looking good, you’ll want to arrive early
or risk a long walk from wherever you find a spot.
The views here are a big bonus. On a clear
day, you’ll get a beautiful panorama of the ocean, and if you’re lucky, you
might even spot a turtle or two cruising by.
The Clump Point ramp is also a launch spot
for several boat tour operators offering trips to Dunk Island, so there’s
always a bit of buzz around the ramp.
Just a short stroll from the ramp, you’ll
find Clump Point Lookout—a perfect place to take in Mission Beach, Dunk Island,
and those jaw-dropping sunrises or sunsets. If you’re up for a bit of a
scramble, there’s even some decent fishing and a relaxing walk along the rocks
nearby.
All in all, the Clump Point boat ramp is a
top-notch spot for both boating and soaking up the coastal vibes; just don’t
forget to beat the crowd if you want a good parking spot!
