Located around 15 kilometres east of Inglewood, Coolmunda Dam is a popular recreation spot offering boating, fishing, camping, and plenty of space to relax by the water.
Near the campground, the public boat ramp provides easy access to the dam via Macintyre Brook. The small concrete ramp is well suited for launching and retrieving boats, with visitors often praising how convenient and easy it is to use. There’s even a fish cleaning table nearby, making it a handy setup for anglers heading out onto the water.
The dam welcomes vessels of all sizes and supports a range of water activities. Boaters are encouraged to follow all signage, stay alert for hazards, and remain at least 200 metres away from the dam wall, as marked by buoys and warning signs.
There is a sealed area beside the ramp where boaters can park their trailers and vehicles. Facilities around the ramp and recreation area include toilets, drinking water, picnic spaces, rubbish bins, BBQ areas, and a well-maintained playground, making it a great stop for families as well as campers and day visitors. The peaceful surroundings, especially at sunset, are a highlight for many travellers, with plenty of birdlife and interesting insects adding to the natural atmosphere.
Fishing is one of the major drawcards at Coolmunda Dam, with many visitors heading out by boat or casting from designated areas around the shoreline. A fishing permit is required, and onshore fishing near the dam wall is not permitted.
Camping is also available at the dam, with privately operated accommodation and non-powered campsites located within the designated camping grounds. The area is spacious, tidy, and generally peaceful, although it can become busy during peak periods and occasional generator noise can be expected at night.
