Located on Wooliana
Road, the Daly River Public Boat Ramp is more than just a launch point; it’s a
gateway to some of the best fishing waters in the Northern Territory. The area
also features several camping grounds and caravan parks.
The single-lane
concrete boat ramp, often covered with dirt, has a steep drop-off at the end,
so a 4WD vehicle is essential for pulling out a loaded trailer. The ramp
provides direct access to the river and is usable in most tide conditions.
The parking area is
spacious, with room for over 30 cars and trailers, and includes a toilet block
for convenience. Loading ramps are also positioned at the entrance and exit,
making it easy to launch and retrieve boats.
As one of the top
tourist destinations in the Northern Territory, the Daly River is famous for
its scenic tidal waters, abundant barramundi, and diverse wildlife; including
both freshwater and saltwater crocodiles. This fishing hotspot attracts
recreational anglers, tour operators, and commercial fishers alike, with no
permits required to fish in the Daly River and Daly River mouth regions.
In 2023, the boat ramp
underwent major upgrades, including repairs and an extension to the lower
section, improving access and usability.
With its fantastic
fishing and breathtaking surroundings, it’s no wonder this boat ramp is a
favourite among locals and visitors alike! Just be sure to be croc-wise always when you visit this ramp.
