The Dampier Boat Ramp
is your go-to launch spot in the heart of Dampier, WA’s major industrial port
in the Pilbara region. This four-lane ramp, with jetties in the middle of the
lanes to facilitate docking boats and loading and unloading passengers, makes
it super easy to get your boat in the water, especially around mid to high
tide. Just a heads-up: if the tide drops below 0.6m, you’ll want to be extra
cautious when launching or retrieving your vessel. You can check the local
tides before heading out.
There’s usually plenty
of parking available, but on those calm days, spots can fill up fast. Some
regulars mention that after midday, the outer ramp is mostly used for launching
only, so plan accordingly.
If you’re not boating,
no worries, as there are plenty of fun activities to enjoy here. On both sides
of the ramp, you’ll find sandy beaches perfect for a swim during the high tide.
There are a few shaded shelters to duck under when the sun’s blazing, and at
low tide, the rocks emerge, which is ideal for checking out the local marine
life in the rock pools. Paddleboarding and kayaking are also super popular
here.
The beach is a top
spot for chilling out, sunbathing, taking the dog for a walk, or catching the
stunning Dampier Bay sunset.
Right above the beach,
there's a grassy patch that rolls down from the Dampier Sharks Football Club’s
field. On weekends, Windy Ridge Oval is buzzing with footy games, but it’s also
a great picnic spot if you're after a relaxing evening with a view.
