The Dru Point Boat
Ramp in Margate is a well-designed triple-lane concrete ramp with walkways on
both sides, making launching and retrieving boats a smooth process. It provides
easy access to North West Bay, the River Derwent, and even the open ocean. Thanks
to its sheltered location, boaters can use the ramp in all tide conditions
without worrying about extreme weather. The bay itself is a fantastic spot for
fishing and cruising, offering plenty of opportunities for a great day on the
water.
For those who prefer
to fish from land, the jetties beside the ramp are a solid spot to cast a line
and try your luck. Parking is hassle-free, with plenty of space for both cars
and trailers. While there aren’t any amenities right at the ramp, you’ll find
everything you need just a short stroll away at Dru Point Bicentennial Park.
The park is a
fantastic place to unwind, whether you’re enjoying a picnic, taking a walk with
your dog, or getting in some exercise. It’s well-equipped with toilets, BBQ
stations, picnic tables, benches, and sheltered areas. Kids can burn off some
energy at the playground, while sports enthusiasts can make use of the tennis
courts. There’s even a small café for a quick bite or coffee.
The park is also home
to a Memorial Garden dedicated to missing persons and several sites honouring
Indigenous heritage. A scenic walk along the shoreline features informative
plaques that pay tribute to the land’s traditional custodians. Bird watchers will
also enjoy spotting local wildlife, with ducks, pelicans, and seagulls
frequently making an appearance. Whether you’re launching a boat, fishing from
the jetty, or just soaking in the peaceful surroundings, you can all enjoy them
here.
