Dunsborough Boat Ramp

The Old Dunsborough Boat Ramp sits just a short distance from the centre of town, making it a convenient launch point for locals and visitors alike. The ramp itself is single-lane, with a pontoon, and leads directly into the ocean. While launching here can be straightforward, it’s worth keeping an eye on the weather, an onshore breeze can make things a little tricky.

In May 2025, upgrade works were completed to address ongoing issues with erosion. The old ramp was prone to being battered by strong waves during winter storms, which often washed sand away at the base. The improvements now provide extra protection against erosion and make launching and retrieving boats safer and more reliable.

Although the ramp is shallow, concrete runs most of the way out, so there’s little concern about getting bogged down. Still, those launching larger boats may want to time their trip with the tides to avoid driving too far into the water. The ramp can get very busy, particularly over holiday periods. It’s one-way in and one-way out, so expect some waiting during peak times. Fortunately, the design can comfortably hold several boats queued at once, so with a bit of patience and etiquette, the process runs smoothly enough.

Facilities around the ramp are well maintained, with ample parking for vehicles and trailers, although spaces do fill quickly when it’s busy.

Beyond boating, the location itself is a drawcard. The surrounding Blackhurst Park is beautifully kept, offering shaded grassed areas, benches, picnic tables, and toilets. Families will appreciate the playground, safe swimming spots, and the chance to spot stingrays off the nearby jetty in the evenings.

Adding to the charm, there’s usually a coffee van on site and on weekends you may find food trucks as well. The water here is crystal clear, and the views at sunrise or sunset are truly something special. With its turquoise bay, green lawns, and easy access to shops and cafes in town, Old Dunsborough isn’t just a boat ramp, it’s a perfect spot for a day out by the water.
