The Gypsy Bay Boat Ramp in Primrose Sands, within the Sorell region, is a handy dual-lane concrete ramp with an adjacent walkway and breakwater for added protection. It’s accessible in most conditions, though it can be exposed to easterly and south-easterly winds.
This ramp is well-regarded for its convenience, with the breakwater and jetty making launching and retrieving straightforward. It’s also a great starting point if you’re heading out to explore the nearby fishing grounds. That said, it’s best avoided during southerly weather, when conditions can be less favourable.
Parking is limited, with space for fewer than 10 cars and trailers, so getting in early is recommended, especially on busy days when queues can form. Access is via a single-lane road, and vehicles parking along the roadside can sometimes make things tight for trailers coming through.
No amenities are available within the site, so be sure to come prepared with your necessities when you come here.
Despite the constraints, Gypsy Bay remains a popular spot for boaters and anglers alike. It’s a neat little launch site, offering easy access to the water and a chance to enjoy some relaxed fishing not far from shore.
