Tucked away in the laid-back coastal town of Indented Head on the Bellarine Peninsula, just east of Geelong, the Indented Head Boat Ramp may be on the smaller side, but it definitely pulls its weight. This two-lane concrete ramp is in good condition and offers access straight into Port Phillip Bay, making it a handy spot for anyone with a small boat looking to get out on the water.
Because it’s a bit exposed, the ramp is affected by tides and weather, so it's best to plan your launch during mid to high tide since low tide can make things a little tricky. And if the wind’s up, expect a bit of a bumpier time launching and retrieving.
There’s a jetty alongside the ramp, great for land-based fishing or just chilling out and taking in the views across the bay. It’s a peaceful little spot to cast a line or watch the boats roll in and out.
Parking is generally available, but it fills up fast, especially in the summer months, when the area comes alive with boaters, fishers, and holidaymakers. The facilities nearby are pretty solid for a smaller ramp: there’s a fish cleaning station, a toilet block in the carpark, and picnic tables with a BBQ area if you’re planning to hang around after a day on the water. There’s even a playground for the kids, making it a good all-round family-friendly spot.
Though it’s not the biggest launch site around, the Indented Head Boat Ramp is a local favourite thanks to its coastal charm and easy access to some of the best fishing spots in Port Phillip Bay. It’s a great pick if you’re after a relaxed day on the water, whether you're chasing fish or just cruising the coastline.
