The Karkarookok Park
Boat Ramp is a small and lesser-known launch site, primarily used by locals and
experienced boaters. This single-lane concrete ramp is in moderate condition,
suitable for small boats, canoes, and kayaks rather than larger vessels. It
provides access to tranquil waters, making it a good spot for fishing and
leisurely boating excursions. Karkarook Lake is regularly stocked with Trout.
The ramp is located in
Karkarook Park, Heatherton, one of Melbourne’s largest suburban park and lake
facilities. It is designed to provide a recreational facility for many
thousands of visitors each year. The 15-hectare lake is suitable for a range of
activities including canoeing and birdwatching. A trail system around the lake
is perfect for a casual cycle or a power walk!
Barbecue stations,
public toilets, kids playground, and picnic facilities area available, set
amongst trees around the park and lake. Dogs are welcome to visit but for the
sake of wildlife and other visitors must be kept on a leash except within the
designated “off-leash” area. The park has a 'Carry In Carry Out' policy for
rubbish, so what you bring in needs to be taken out with you.
Parking is limited, and during peak times, the ramp may become congested. While it may not be as well-equipped as larger boat ramps, Karakook Park offers a quiet, off-the-beaten-path launch site for those seeking a peaceful boating experience away from busy tourist areas.
