Karumba Point Boat
Ramp is a prime launch spot, sitting right at the end of Palmer Street, just
across from Karumba Point Sunset Caravan Park and less than a kilometre from
Karumba Point Holiday and Tourist Park. If you're staying in this part of town
and looking to hit the water, this ramp is a super convenient option.
The two-lane concrete
ramp gives direct access to the Norman River, but be prepared; this ramp comes
with a few challenges. There’s a steep drop-off at the end, it can get
slippery, and it’s tide-restricted with crosscurrents that can make launching
tricky. Take your time, plan around the tides, and be cautious while using it.
As with any waterway
in croc country, it’s important to stay croc-wise. The Norman River is home to
these incredible reptiles, so while the water may look inviting, resist the
urge to wade in! Keep a safe distance from the water’s edge, stay alert, and follow
all boating safety guidelines to enjoy a hassle-free day on the water.
For land-based
anglers, fishing is prohibited within 50 metres of the boat ramp, so be sure to
set up your rod further away.
The spacious car park
can accommodate around 50 cars and trailers, with good lighting and a toilet
block near the entrance. Right beside the car park, there’s a boardwalk that’s
perfect for photographers and birdwatchers looking to capture the beauty of Karumba.
But the real
highlight? The unbelievable sunsets. This is, hands down one of the best spots
to watch the sun dip over the Gulf of Carpentaria, painting the sky in stunning
shades of orange, pink, and gold. Whether you’re here for the fishing, the
views, or both, Karumba Point Boat Ramp is a fantastic spot to launch your adventure!
