The Kings Beach Boat Ramp, located on the Sunshine Coast at Kings Beach, is a compact single-lane concrete ramp best suited for launching kayaks and small boats. While limited in space and facilities, it offers a scenic and direct launch into the surf, just outside the Caloundra Bar.
The ramp features plastic strips that make it easier to slide kayaks into the water, and its position provides some shelter from easterly to northerly winds, making access more manageable in calm conditions.
That said, the area can be challenging, particularly during medium to high swells, and is best navigated by experienced users. The steep approach and narrow access make it unsuitable for larger vessels or inexperienced drivers. Swell conditions can change quickly, and with rocks lining both sides of the ramp, careful judgment and preparation are essential.
Surfers often use the ramp as well, so extra caution is recommended when launching. On flat days, the surrounding waters offer excellent snorkelling opportunities and access to nearby reefs.
Parking is very limited near the ramp, but additional parking is available further up the road. There’s a fish cleaning station on site, though no shower or toilet facilities are provided.
Beyond boating, Kings Beach offers a beautiful coastal setting with rock pools, ocean views, and walking paths, perfect for a quiet outing with the family. It's a lovely spot to relax, take in the scenery, or go for a swim with the kids. While it's something of a hidden gem, its limitations make it more suitable for those who know the area and are confident managing coastal conditions.
