If you're looking for a more low-key and remote place to
launch your boat near Werribee South, the Kirk Point Boat Ramp is a solid pick.
Tucked away and pretty quiet most days, this spot gives you direct access to
Port Phillip Bay. It's got a single-lane concrete ramp that does the job, but
since it’s exposed to wind and swell, it’s better suited for experienced
boaters who know how to handle tougher conditions.
Keep in mind, the ramp can be tricky at low tide and
definitely isn’t the place for a casual cruise when the weather turns. That
said, it’s a favourite among anglers who are chasing snapper and flathead
offshore; it’s well known for being a good launch point into deeper waters for
small watercraft.
Good news is, Better Boating Victoria has given Kirk Point a
bit of a facelift back in 2023. There’s now a second ramp lane, a pontoon, and
a breakwater to help make launching a bit smoother; especially if you're in a
smaller boat. They've also added some handy extras like solar lighting (perfect
for early starts or late finishes), depth indicators on the pontoon, and even a
security camera so you can check out the conditions before you leave home.
There are bins nearby too; so nobody can find excuses for leaving rubbish
scattered around.
A new carpark has also been installed with space for around
10 cars and trailers, plus a designated wheelchair-only spot. Not a huge amount
of room, so your best bet is to get there early, especially on weekends when
the keen fishos roll in.
All in all, Kirk Point might be off the beaten path, but for
those willing to make the drive and plan around the tides, it’s a great little
spot to launch and head out for a solid day on the water.
