Lions Park Boat Ramp is located along Walgett Street and the Gwydir Highway, across from Earls Park, and provides a small single-lane concrete ramp leading into the Barwon River. The boat ramp and parking area have been newly added, making access more convenient, though there is no jetty, which may make boarding a little tricky for some boaters after launching. Plus, the river can be shallow at times, so make sure to know the tidal conditions before you visit the area.
Despite that, it’s a popular local spot for fishing and a handy stopover for travellers. The park offers plenty of parking space for vans, RVs, cars, and trailers, along with clean toilets, showers, BBQ facilities, and picnic tables. It’s also a pleasant place to relax by the river, with plenty of wildlife in the area and opportunities to enjoy a quiet break.
Visitors often appreciate the well-kept surroundings, with rubbish bins, shaded areas, and a tidy tar car park. There are also benches to sit on, walking paths nearby, and even a new playground across the road, making it suitable for families. An old engine display adds a bit of local character, while informational signs around the park provide some interesting context about the area.
It’s a popular rest stop for road trippers, offering a comfortable place for a picnic, BBQ, or just to stretch your legs and dip your feet in the river. While occasional flies can be a minor nuisance, most visitors still find it a peaceful and enjoyable place to pause and take in the river setting.
