The Logan River Boat Ramp, located in
Alberton, at the northern edge of the Gold Coast, is a quiet and practical
launching spot into the Logan River. It features a wide single-lane concrete
ramp with a floating pontoon, making it easy to load and launch. The adjacent
jetty is well equipped, with motion-sensor lighting and space to tie up briefly
or cast a line from the platform. The location is particularly convenient for
anyone heading toward the Southern Moreton Bay Islands from the southern side
of the Logan.
This ramp is well suited to larger boats,
offering drive-around access for easy manoeuvering. Its relatively secluded
setting makes it a good choice for those new to boating or jet skiing, as
there’s less traffic to contend with. One thing to note: at high tide, there’s
no real beach on either side of the ramp, which can make launching or
retrieving a little trickier.
There’s plenty of parking available for
vehicles with trailers, along with clean public toilets, rubbish bins, BBQ
facilities, and an undercover picnic table. There’s also a small playground up
the hill and a sandy patch where kids can play while the adults fish or
relax. It’s a peaceful area that’s well
maintained and family-friendly.
Fishing here is productive, especially if you
time it right with the tides. The outgoing tide can be strong, which may make
fishing difficult with more than a couple of people on board, but if you catch
it at the right moment, species like bream, snapper, whiting, flathead,
threadfin, and even sharks can be found in the area.
All in all, it’s a well-rounded, quiet spot for
boating, fishing, and enjoying a laid-back day by the water.
