Lorne Boat Ramp, Lorne

Located along the Shipwreck Trail Road, the Lorne Boat Ramp sits in a scenic coastal setting where the ocean meets rugged shoreline. This is a sand and beach launch site in generally good condition, featuring a nearby jetty. The ramp has a gentle slope, making access relatively straightforward when conditions are suitable. Launching and retrieval are typically 4WD or tractor-assisted, depending on the tide and surf conditions.

Parking for cars and trailers is available at the beach. Additional parking is also provided at the jetty parking lot and in Point Grey Park. Facilities in Point Grey include public toilets, picnic tables and chairs, along with a BBQ station. 

Set within the wider Point Grey coastal area, the surroundings are defined by rock platforms, reefs, and a series of small beaches stretching along the coastline. While the scenery is striking, conditions can be challenging, with strong rips and surging waves present across much of the shoreline. For this reason, swimming is generally not recommended, except in the more sheltered sections near the southern end of Point Grey Beach.

Despite the conditions, the area is popular for a range of recreational activities. Fishing is a standout drawcard, with easy access to deeper gutters and productive rock and beach fishing spots. The jetty also provides a well-used platform for anglers, offering multiple levels and excellent ocean views. Occasional surfing opportunities can also be found along the reef breaks nearby when conditions are right.

The foreshore and surrounding headland make for a great stop along the Great Ocean Road, with open coastal views, fresh sea breezes, and plenty of space to enjoy a relaxed break or picnic. While it can be quite windy at times, the dramatic scenery and natural beauty make it a worthwhile place to visit when staying in or passing through Lorne.
