The Low Head Boat Ramp, located in the coastal township of Low Head in the George Town region near Launceston, is a well-designed dual-lane concrete ramp with a central pontoon, suitable for all-weather and all-tide use. Personal Watercraft (PWC) fenders have also been installed, making it versatile for a range of small vessels.
Sheltered by a breakwater wall, the ramp offers a degree of protection from the elements, although on windy days, spray from the water can be hard to avoid. The breakwater itself is popular with land-based fishers, and several pontoons nearby provide docking options for boats in the area.
Fishing here is considered some of the best around Launceston, with common catches including wrasse, flathead, and occasionally Australian salmon. Wildlife sightings are another draw: seals are frequently spotted around the ramp and pontoons.
Parking is available close to the ramp, with space for both cars and trailers. Just across the car park, you’ll find the local Maritime Museum, and public toilets and a nearby restaurant are within easy walking distance, making it a convenient stop for visitors.
