Located near Dungeness and the popular viewing tower in the coastal town of Lucinda, the Boat Ramp is a well-equipped launch facility offering easy access to some of North Queensland’s best waterways. The site features a two-lane concrete ramp with floating pontoons on both sides, making launching and retrieving boats straightforward and convenient. From here, boaters can head into Dungeness Creek, with access to both the Herbert River and the open sea, while also serving as a great departure point for day trips around Hinchinbrook Island.

As with many tidal boat ramps in the region, conditions can change quickly, so checking the tides before launching is essential. Access out to sea involves navigating shallow channels and sandbanks, particularly at low tide, with many locals recommending at least a one-metre tide for safer passage out of the creek. It’s also common advice for first-time visitors to follow a local boat through the channel, as the path can shift throughout the year.

Crocodiles are known to inhabit the area as well, so caution around the water is important, and swimming is strongly discouraged.

The ramp is widely regarded as easy to use, with many visitors praising the quality of the pontoons, ample parking, and well-maintained facilities. There’s plenty of room for boat trailer parking, wash-down areas, picnic tables, toilets, fish cleaning area (beside the resort hotel) and even a play area for children, making it a comfortable spot for families and travelling anglers alike. The surrounding scenery is another highlight, with impressive views across the waterways toward the mountains of Hinchinbrook Island.

Fishing is a major drawcard in the area, whether you’re heading offshore, exploring the creeks, or simply casting from nearby banks and rock edges. Visitors often mention spotting tiny crabs among the rocks, adding to the charm of the location.

Overall, the Lucinda Boat Ramp is considered one of the region’s standout boating facilities: clean, spacious, and well-maintained, with easy launching access and excellent amenities that make it a popular base for fishing, boating, and exploring the surrounding waterways.
