The Lysterfield Park Boat Ramp provides access to
Lysterfield Lake, a popular recreation area located 40 km southeast of
Melbourne. As part of Lysterfield Park, this lake is primarily used for
swimming, wading, and boating, including kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up
paddleboarding.
The ramp is a small, single-lane concrete structure, perfect
for launching small watercraft and sailboats. Powered boats are prohibited,
which helps keep the lake peaceful and safe for beginner paddlers. A pontoon is
located just a few metres from the ramp, providing a convenient space for
docking, loading, and unloading. There is ample parking available for boat
trailers, as well as a designated area for boat rigging.
Lysterfield Lake features two beaches that provide walk-in
swimming access, both located near the Beach Carpark at the southern end of the
lake. Please note that the lake is not patrolled by lifeguards, so it is
essential to supervise children at all times. Swimming is not permitted in
other areas of the lake due to unpredictable depths and the presence of
waterbird habitats.
The surrounding park offers excellent amenities, including
lots of picnic areas with BBQ stations, public toilets, and walking trails.
Visitors can also enjoy the many cycling and hiking trails within Lysterfield
Park, making it a great family-friendly location.
One of the key attractions of Lysterfield Lake is its scenic
environment, surrounded by native bushland and wildlife. It was once used as a
water storage reservoir, but today it is exclusively for recreation. Given its
proximity to Melbourne, Lysterfield Park is a popular weekend destination for
locals seeking a tranquil escape from the city.
