Matilda Bay Boat Ramp,
also known as the Hackett Drive Boat Ramp, is a go-to spot for boaters,
swimmers, and picnic lovers in Crawley, just minutes from Perth’s city centre.
Offering easy access to the sheltered waters of Matilda Bay and the scenic Swan
River, this location is perfect for those looking to enjoy a day out on the
water or simply relax by the shore.
The ramp itself is a
dual-lane concrete structure with a jetty in the middle, making launching and
retrieving boats a breeze. It’s a great launch point whether you're heading up
the river into the city or downstream to find quiet anchoring spots. There's
plenty of parking for cars and trailers, with overflow options nearby. Weekday
parking costs $13 per day, but the best part? Weekend parking is free! That
said, expect crowds on weekends, as Matilda Bay is a favourite for locals,
especially since the Royal Perth Yacht Club is adjacent to the ramp.
On a warm summer day,
the Matilda Bay Reserve comes alive with families swimming, kids paddling at
the water’s edge, and groups enjoying BBQs in the shaded picnic areas. The
river is also a popular fishing spot, and during blue swimmer crab season, many
boaters launch here to drop their crab nets. If you’re into birdwatching,
Pelican Point, located within the reserve, is an important breeding sanctuary
for migratory birds.
Beyond boating, this
stunning riverside location is a top choice for weddings and social events,
thanks to its gorgeous city skyline views; especially at sunset when Perth
lights up over the water. While the site has bathrooms nearby, note that there
are no wash-down bays.
Whether you’re
boating, crabbing, fishing, or just soaking up the views, Matilda Bay Boat Ramp
is a fantastic launch point for exploring Perth’s beautiful waterways.
