If you're cruising through the riverside
town along the River Derwent, the Millbrook Rise Boat Ramp is a great little
spot to check out. It’s got a dual concrete ramp with a timber walkway on one
side and a pontoon with PWC (jet ski) fenders on the other—super convenient for
both boats and jet skis. Best part? You can launch at any tide.
Just a heads-up: if you’re boating or
riding a PWC, keep it under 5 knots unless you’re towing a skier. And for jet
skis, make sure to stick to the right-hand side of the river. Swimming off the
ramp is a no-go, so keep that in mind.
There’s heaps of parking for cars and trailers, and
if you’re on the road in a caravan or motorhome (self-contained), you’re
welcome to pull up and stay overnight in the paddock behind the ramp. The
Derwent's always buzzing here with water activities such as fishing, skiing,
race boats; so expect this area to be a bit of a hub for water-based fun. If
you're into fishing, the bream and trout action is solid. There’s also a
walking trail that’ll take you all the way back to the civilisation in New
Norfolk if you feel like stretching your legs.
On land, you’ve got the basics covered too;
there are toilets, picnic tables, and BBQ stations for a relaxed lunch. No
drinking water on-site, but the main road is only a few minutes down if you
need to stock up.
All in all, it’s a peaceful, convenient,
and beautiful spot to launch a boat, cast a line, have a picnic, or just chill
and watch the river drift by.
