At Lake Monduran near
the Fred Haigh Dam, you’ve got two boat ramp options to launch your next
adventure, each located near popular campsites in the area.
First up is the
concrete ramp; a single-lane setup that’s a solid mix of concrete and asphalt.
It’s well-lit, making it easy for those early morning launches or night-time
returns, and it’s suitable for both 2WD and 4WD vehicles. The ramp is in good
condition and pretty straightforward to use, though it can get busy during peak
times, especially when the dam is full. Parking for trailers is up the hill,
and when the water level drops a bit, there’s usually more room to move around.
Then there’s the dirt
ramp, which is a little more rugged and strictly for 4WD access. It’s a bit
tighter, only able to handle two boats at once when the dam is at capacity.
With the water levels currently maxed out, some of the usual parking spots near
the dam are underwater, so plan accordingly.
In between these
ramps, you’ve got two great camping options:
Lake Monduran Holiday
Park is the go-to for families and fishing fanatics alike. Just an hour from
Bundaberg and about 20km from Gin Gin, it’s a well-equipped holiday park that
caters to everyone: from barramundi hunters to laid-back kayakers. Accommodation
ranges from comfy holiday houses and open-plan cabins to powered and unpowered
sites perfect for caravans, motorhomes, and tents. The unpowered grassy sites
are close to all the key facilities like the amenities block, camp kitchen, and
picnic areas—great for those who like camping with a side of comfort.
If you're chasing a
more back-to-basics vibe, check out the Lake Monduran SDA Camp, located even
closer to one of the ramps. It’s ideal for group camping trips, with powered
sites for caravans and bush-style camping spots for the adventurous types.
You’ll find fire pits, canoe access, and a main shed with a kitchen and a new
cold room, plus separate showers and toilets for men and women. The camp’s
still growing and improving, but it’s already a great base for a group looking
to reconnect with nature.
Whether you’re here
for the big barra, peaceful paddling, or just soaking up the outdoors, Lake
Monduran’s ramps and camps have you covered.
