The Montrose Bay Boat Ramp is a modest single-lane concrete ramp located just across from Montrose Bay High School, nestled between the suburbs of Montrose and Rosetta. It provides straightforward access to the River Derwent, making it a convenient launch point for boaters heading toward Hobart or venturing further out to sea. The surrounding area is generally quiet, though it can become more active in the afternoons and on weekends.
While the ramp itself is functional, parking is limited directly on-site. That said, additional parking can be found nearby. Boaters with larger vehicles or trailers should note that the turning space at the ramp is somewhat restricted and may require extra care when manoeuvring.
Although there are no facilities immediately at the ramp, visitors are only a short walk from several local amenities. The Montrose Bay Yacht Club, home to a family-friendly dinghy sailing community, is close by. Also nearby is the Montrose Foreshore area, which features a skatepark, an outdoor fitness space, a children’s playground, picnic shelters, BBQ facilities, and public toilets.
It's worth noting that while boating is popular here, fishing in the immediate area is discouraged due to health advisories related to mercury contamination in local fish.
Beyond boating, Montrose Bay is also a pleasant place for a casual walk or to spend time outdoors with dogs. The scenic foreshore path makes for a nice spot to stretch your legs or enjoy a relaxed afternoon by the water.
