The Mundoo Channel Boat Ramp is a free launch site that provides access to the Coorong and Lower Lakes region. This ramp is particularly popular among kayakers and boaters looking to explore the waterways and looking for something to catch, including access to the river's mouth just around the corner.
The ramp features a dual-lane, solid concrete surface and includes a fixed jetty for mooring. It is easy to use, but be aware that it can get quite windy. When launching or retrieving boats, exercise caution as the ramp can be very shallow at times, and there are no signs indicating water depth. Take care when launching during low tide, and make sure to stick to the designated channel. Additionally, there is no lighting, making retrieval after dark challenging.
There is a car park adjacent to the ramp; however, it sometimes lacks sufficient parking spots for cars and boat trailers during the holiday season or peak times. However, there are additional parking spaces and restrooms available across the road, so finding a place to park is not too much of a hassle. The location is very scenic, with calm waters ideal for launching.
You can enjoy beautiful views over the river mouth and observe a variety of birdlife. Don’t forget to grab a coffee from the café van behind the bales in the car park. And if you don't mind waking up super early, the view at sunrise in the ramp is incredible; it's worth sacrificing a few hours of sleep.
The Mundoo Channel Boat Ramp is perfect for nature enthusiasts, offering easy access to some of South Australia’s most stunning and ecologically significant waterways.
