Tucked alongside the scenic Challengers Beach in Naval Base, a quiet coastal suburb south of Perth, the Noot Boat Ramp is a lesser-known but well-regarded local launch point. This single-lane concrete ramp offers direct access to the clear, aquamarine waters of the Indian Ocean and is particularly well-suited for launching small boats and tinnies. This ramp is not suitable for launching large trailer crafts.
Challengers Beach itself is calm and family-friendly, making it a good spot for jet skis thanks to its flat sand and typically gentle shoreline. While the water can get choppy in windy conditions, on a still day it’s beautifully calm, almost glass-like, with minimal seaweed and few rocks.
Facilities near the ramp include a toilet block, showers, and a washdown area, which add to the convenience. Parking is available, though it is very limited. Expect to park at the side of the road during peak days.
The beach has a relaxed atmosphere, often quiet and sparsely populated, making it ideal for a peaceful swim, walk, or short stay. The water is clean and clear, and you can see Garden Island just offshore. Despite the surrounding industrial setting, including some naval activity and nearby factories, the area maintains its charm, particularly for those looking for a low-key outing.
A separate dog-friendly beach on the refinery side offers a safe, clean space for pets and kids to enjoy. It’s also a great area for snorkelling or diving, with easy shoreline access and calm conditions on most days.
With its sandy, gently sloping shore, basic amenities, and low crowd numbers, Noot Boat Ramp and Challengers Beach are well-suited for a laid-back day by the water, whether you're launching a small boat, enjoying a swim, or simply watching the sunset in peace.
