The Orient Point Boat Ramp, located on Orient Avenue, offers a single-lane concrete ramp with a floating pontoon, providing direct access to the Crookhaven River. It’s suitable for small to medium-sized boats and works well across both high and low tides. The area becomes shallow at low tide, so it’s not ideal for larger boats or for those who aren’t confident launching in windy or fast-running tide conditions.
This ramp is a great starting point for kayakers and small-boat users. From here, you can paddle across to Greenwell Point for fish and chips or explore Curlies Bay at a relaxed pace. It’s also a popular place for children learning to fish off the pontoon.
Fishing is popular here; fishers can catch blackfish on a lucky day, or the usual small estuary species, particularly on the run-out tide. The fast-moving tide is worth keeping in mind, especially for kids. Jellyfish sightings add a bit of charm to the calm atmosphere.
Parking and manoeuvring space are limited. While parking is minimal, it rarely fills completely, and there is additional street parking nearby.
A foreshore walk begins from the ramp, offering a pleasant stroll along the water. The area is especially beautiful at sunset and provides a quiet spot for fishing or watching activity on the river. Visitors can also enjoy nearby public toilets, picnic tables, and the chance to see pelicans up close.
It’s a simple, peaceful place to launch a boat, drop a line with the kids, or sit with takeaway from Culburra while taking in the view.
