The Oyster Channel Boat Ramp is tucked away in Wooloweyah along Carrs Drive, just a short 10-minute drive from the heart of Yamba.
It’s a fairly basic launch point rather than a formal ramp, consisting of an unsealed sand and gravel entry into the waters of Oyster Channel. As such, it’s best suited to smaller craft like tinnies, shalloq draft vessels, and lightweight motorboats.
From here, boaters can access the scenic Lake Wooloweyah either through Oyster Channel or via Palmers Channel. Water depths in the channel are generally adequate, but it’s important to stay alert. Low-hanging power cables and the Oyster Channel Bridge, with a clearance of 3.7 metres, can pose challenges. Surrounded by Yuraygir National Park, the lake itself offers a peaceful setting and is popular for fishing, though it remains quite shallow and lacks navigation markers, so a cautious approach is essential.
There is a wide unsealed area around the ramp where visitors can park their trailers and vehicles. Some RVs and caravan owners park here to chill by the water.
Keep in mind that there are no amenities available within the ramp, so bring your essentials when visiting the area.
