The Patterson River Ramp, located in Carrum, is one of
Victoria's busiest and most well-equipped boat launching facilities, providing
direct access to Port Phillip Bay through the Patterson River. This ramp caters
to a high volume of recreational boaters and anglers, particularly during peak
seasons.
The facility features three separate concrete ramps:
The first ramp: located on the western side near the
entrance of Launching Way Road, has three lanes.
The second ramp: situated in the middle, also has three
lanes.
The third ramp: includes three lanes and features a small
pontoon for mooring activities.
Recent developments at the Patterson River Launching Way
have included the addition of two new multi-lane boat ramps, a new parking lot,
four new retaining walls, and the installation of a gangway and floating
pontoon.
Ample parking spaces for cars and trailers are available
on-site. The area is equipped with amenities such as fish cleaning stations,
restrooms, and picnic spots. Notably, as of September 1, 2019, parking and
launching fees were eliminated, making the facility more accessible to the
public. Fishing charters are also available, providing anglers without boats
the opportunity to fish.
Due to its popularity, the ramp can become congested on
weekends and holidays. Boaters are encouraged to plan their visits accordingly
and remain patient during busy periods. Additionally, it is essential to be
mindful of river currents and weather conditions when navigating to and from
the bay to ensure a safe boating experience.
