Pelican Beach Boat
Ramp, tucked away on Waterways Drive in Main Beach, is a super convenient
launch spot for exploring the southern end of the bay. This ramp has two
concrete lanes with a floating pontoon in between, making it really easy to
launch solo. There’s also an extra pontoon on the eastern side that’s handy for
land-based fishing, docking, or loading and unloading your boat.
It’s not just about
boating here; there’s a lovely grassy park next to the ramp and a nice beach
that’s great for relaxing or swimming. The calm, clear waters of the Broadwater
make it an ideal spot for launching kayaks and small boats or just enjoying a
splash. You’ll also catch sight of jet skis zipping around to the north, and
true to its name, plenty of pelicans hanging out nearby.
There’s on-site
parking along Waterways Drive, so you won’t have to stress about finding a
spot. The whole area is super user-friendly, with outdoor showers, bike racks,
and drinking fountains (even with dog bowls!) lining the wide footpath which is
part of the well-known Gold Coast Broadwaterway.
Take a stroll and
you’ll spot some impressive superyachts moored at Southport Marina; definitely
worth a look. If you're planning to hang around for a while, there are public
toilets and picnic facilities right on the corner of Gold Coast Highway and Waterways
Drive.
Got your dog with you?
Good news; there are dog exercise areas close to the ramp. Just remember, pups
need to stay on a leash unless otherwise signed, and they’re not allowed in
kids’ playgrounds.
Whether you're here to
launch the boat, paddleboard, cast a line, or just enjoy the coastal vibes,
Pelican Beach Boat Ramp is a fantastic all-rounder.
