Pack a lunch and spend
the day at Picnic Point in Cairn Curran, a fantastic spot in Baringhup for
swimming, fishing, and boating. The boat ramp here is a small, single-lane
concrete ramp with a steep slope, making it easier to launch into Lake Cairn
Curran.
Recent upgrades have
improved the area around the ramp, with renovations to prevent erosion, an
upgraded car park, and new signage to help boaters navigate with ease.
Cairn Curran Reservoir
is a paradise for water lovers, allowing activities like boating, sailing,
skiing, fishing, jet skiing, and canoeing. If you don’t have a boat, no
worries—there’s a rocky shore near the ramp that’s perfect for fishing. Anglers
can cast a line for yellas, reddies, cod, and trout.
The picnic area is
beautifully designed with decorative rocks, a semi-enclosed shelter, tables,
and fireplaces. There’s also a self-composting amenities block with unisex
cubicles, including a spacious one for wheelchair users. Overall, Picnic Point
is well-equipped with picnic spots, toilets, electric and wood BBQs, rubbish
bins, and shelters—everything you need for a comfortable day out.
One thing to keep in
mind: during summer time, brown snakes are common in the area, so be cautious
in walking on tall grasses and watch your step always to avoid getting bitten.
