The Port Sorell Boat Ramp, located in the coastal town of Port Sorell on Tasmania’s north-central coast, is a dual-lane concrete ramp with a central pontoon, offering direct access to the sheltered waters of Port Sorell and out into the Bass Strait.
While the ramp is well set up for most conditions, it's exposed to northwesterly and northerly winds, and access can be limited at low tide. Sand buildup can also occasionally affect usability, so it's worth keeping an eye on tide conditions, especially when parking.
The addition of PWC fenders and the central jetty helps make launching smoother, even across varying tide levels. It’s a scenic launch site, but users should be mindful that the tide can move quickly in this area.
There isn’t a formal car park, but the surrounding sandy area provides plenty of space for parking and boat rigging. While camping isn’t allowed at the site itself, a spacious caravan park is conveniently located right next door for those staying overnight.
With picturesque views and a relaxed atmosphere, it’s a lovely spot to launch a boat or just take in the scenery. Anglers visiting the ramp often target salmon, making it a popular fishing stop as well.
