Update as of 2026: Boaters heading to the Murray River now have an easier way to launch, with the Red Cliffs Horseshoe Bend Boat Ramp receiving a major upgrade. The revamped ramp features a brand-new concrete surface designed to improve launching conditions for a wide range of boats and make it more use-friendly for local and visiting boaters. The new ramp is both wider and steeper than the previous setup, making launching and retrieving much smoother and more convenient. The upgraded grooved surface also provides better traction underfoot and helps reduce sediment build-up.
The Red Cliffs Horseshoe Bend Boat Ramp is
situated along the southern parrt of Murray River in the town of Red Cliffs (in the Sunraysia
region),Mildura, Victoria. The ramp is accessible via Barko Road at Iraak. This single-lane concrete ramp has been
identified as being in a state of disrepair, prompting plans by the state
government for significant upgrades to enhance safety and accessibility.
The planned upgrades include replacing the
existing ramp, improving its incline and surface to increase usability and
safety, and widening the ramp to 4.5 metres. Limited excavation is planned to
avoid impacting native vegetation and cultural heritage.
Construction is expected to run from February
to April 2025, with Water Excavations engaged to undertake the project. Once
completed, the upgraded ramp will provide safer and more efficient access to
the Murray River for various boating activities, including fishing and water
skiing.
