The River Street Boat
Ramp in River Street, Mackay is a great little spot that’s perfect for
launching small to medium boats. It’s got a dual-lane ramp and a super handy
floating jetty that makes getting in and out of the boat a breeze. You’ll be
heading straight into the Pioneer River, and while it’s good any time, high
tide is the sweet spot. Just watch out for the current; it can get a bit pushy
when you're launching or docking, so keep a firm grip on your boat.
One of the cool things
about this ramp is that baitfish love to hang around it, which means the
fishing off the floating jetty can be pretty decent too. It’s a nice little
spot for casting a line; you might snag a few livies or even some Bream if
you're lucky.
There’s a lovely park
area nearby with picnic tables and plenty of seating, so it’s also a chill
place to sit back and watch the boats go in and out. On hot days, you’ll often
catch a nice breeze rolling through, which makes it even more relaxing.
The car park is a
large parking area that can accommodate 20 car and trailer parking spots.
Amenities are covered
too; there are public toilets and rubbish bins, and the area is wheelchair
accessible. Whether you’re there to fish, launch your boat, or just enjoy a
peaceful walk and a picnic, it’s a great all-rounder with a laid-back vibe and
some lovely river views.
