The Royal Park Boat Ramp is located in the heart of Launceston, a riverside city in northern Tasmania. This is a single-lane concrete ramp that provides all-tide access, though use of the boat ramp itself is restricted to members of the Tamar Yacht Club.
For those not launching a boat, the surrounding area still offers plenty to enjoy. There are rocky and paved spots along the river that are suitable for recreational fishing. The adjacent park is a highlight; beautifully positioned along the Tamar River with scenic views stretching toward Cataract Gorge.
Royal Park is a well-established green space that blends history and recreation. Once home to Tasmania’s first military barracks, it's now a vibrant community area. It features BBQ facilities, a children’s play area, skate park, and outdoor exercise stations. Well-maintained boardwalks and sealed paths connect Royal Park to nearby attractions like Kings Park, the Queen Victoria Museum, and the Cataract Gorge Reserve.
The “Ridges on Royal” event is a popular family-friendly gathering held here regularly, featuring live music, food vans, games, and a bar, making for a relaxed and festive atmosphere.
This part of Launceston’s waterfront is a standout, with a mix of boating activity, excellent seafood nearby, and clean, spacious toilet facilities. The eco-friendly boardwalk is ideal for a stroll, and the park is dog-friendly too, making it a pleasant destination whether you're out for a walk, picnic, or casual fishing session.
