The Skinners Road Boat Ramp, located beside Skinners Park, is a quiet and accessible launch point into the Logan River. It features a single-lane ramp that’s best suited to smaller boats, as the area can become heavily silted. Launching larger boats or trailers is not recommended at present, particularly at low tide.
A pontoon is located around 50 metres upstream from the ramp, providing a convenient spot to tie up and pick up passengers without having to navigate the muddy shoreline. Despite this, the park remains a relaxed and welcoming place to spend time. There are also additional pontoons used for fishing, although they may be occupied at times, particularly on weekends when local prawn trawlers stop by to sell fresh catch. Fishing is common along the riverbanks and from the pontoons, and while facilities are generally tidy, the fish cleaning station could benefit from more regular maintenance.
Parking is available nearby and generally sufficient, making access straightforward for most visitors.
Skinners Park itself is a real highlight. It’s a family-friendly riverside space with covered picnic shelters, BBQs (bring your own fuel), toilets, and plenty of shaded areas under mature trees. There’s a children’s playground with swings and climbing equipment, as well as two fenced dog parks (separate areas for small and large dogs) making it a popular spot for pet owners.
While mobile phone reception can be limited, the overall setting is peaceful and well-maintained which makes up for it.
Overall, Skinners Park and Boat Ramp offer a low-key, well-equipped setting for fishing, small boat access, dog walking, or a casual picnic by the river, often without the crowds.
