Smoky Bay Boat Ramp

The Smoky Bay Boat Ramp, found on Sunset Boulevard in the small coastal town of Smoky Bay on the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula, is a well-maintained two-lane concrete ramp with a central pontoon that launches straight out into the ocean.

The ramp is sealed for easy access and includes a handy fish-cleaning station, though a permit is required for use. Permits can be quickly arranged through the District Council of Ceduna’s website.

Just a short stroll from the ramp is the Smoky Bay Jetty, a popular spot for both locals and visitors. It’s a great place to cast a line, enjoy a casual walk, or simply take in the coastal views. The jetty is equipped with seating, including sheltered areas, making it comfortable to sit back and relax. A designated swimming area with a shark net provides a safe place to cool off, while nearby toilets and ample parking make it convenient for families and day-trippers.

The area is well known for its excellent fishing opportunities. From the jetty or a boat, anglers can target local favourites like King George whiting, garfish, tommies, salmon trout, squid, and blue swimmer crabs. Wildlife lovers are also in for a treat, with regular sightings of cormorants, pelicans, and even sea lions.

For those who prefer to keep their feet dry, Smoky Bay has safe sandy beaches and a new walking track perfect for a gentle coastal stroll. The town is also famous for its oyster farms, producing premium Pacific oysters. Visitors can purchase them directly from the general store or straight from one of the aquaculture farms nearby.

With its calm atmosphere, refreshing sea breezes, and mix of recreation, fishing, and fresh seafood, Smoky Bay is a peaceful yet rewarding spot to spend a day by the water.
