South Arm Boat Ramp

The South Arm Boat Ramp, situated in the rural coastal area of South Arm in the Hobart region, features a dual-lane concrete ramp with an adjacent jetty, including a lower landing platform. The concrete jetty covers an area of approximately 92 square meters, providing a sturdy base for launching and retrieving vessels, as well as for enjoying scenic views.

The ramp offers all-tide access, but it’s important to note that water depth can be limited at low tide. It’s also exposed to south-westerly through to northerly weather, and ocean swell can make conditions challenging at times; especially for launch and retrieval during rougher weather.

Despite this, the ramp is supported by a well-constructed jetty and serves as a convenient launch point for trips toward North Bruny Island and the Iron Pot. The surrounding waters are clear, with picturesque views, and there's a small beach adjacent to the ramp that's perfect for a quick paddle, swim, or to cool your feet.

The area around the ramp is kept clean and well-maintained. However, space in the rigging area is tight, particularly for longer boats, and manoeuvring can be tricky. Trailer parking is somewhat limited near the ramp, though there are a few extra spots slightly further away. A public toilet is conveniently located just across the road from the ramp, near the local fire station.

Overall, it’s an easily accessible and clean facility, best suited to those familiar with the local conditions, especially when swell is present. It remains a good option for day trips and fishing adventures in the region.
