The Spoilbank Marina and its boat ramp is a recent and welcome addition to Port Hedland, officially opened in November 2024 by the Premier of Western Australia, during a well-attended community event.

This new marina precinct introduces modern, high-quality facilities that stand out as some of the best along the WA coastline. Developed to improve access and safety for recreational boaters, the marina offers a significant boost to local boating infrastructure while also creating a lively waterfront space for the Port Hedland community and visitors to enjoy.

The project was a collaborative effort led by Pilbara Ports, in partnership with the Department of Transport, DevelopmentWA, Pilbara Development Commission, BHP, and the Town of Port Hedland.

The facility includes a four-lane boat launch ramp, paired with two floating, universally accessible jetties. The larger ramp is usable at all tide levels, though boaters are advised to take extra care when launching or retrieving at low tide due to potentially slippery conditions; launching at high tide is recommended for an easier experience.

In addition to the ramps, the marina features 22 cyclone-rated floating boat pens, a dedicated fishing platform, and cleaning amenities, including a fish cleaning station. A standout feature is the two-storey public fishing jetty on the western seawall, which includes an artificial reef beneath to enhance the fishing experience.

There’s also a large, well-kept parking area near the entrance with space for up to 200 vehicles with trailers which provides convenient access for boaters.

Port Hedland is known for its fishing, crabbing, turtle nesting, and seasonal whale watching, and the addition of Spoilbank Marina makes it even easier for locals and visitors to get out on the water and explore everything the area has to offer.
