The Taree West Boat
Ramp, tucked away on Petken Drive, is a local gem for anyone looking to
get out on the Manning River. It's a low-key spot that caters to small to
medium boats, fishing tinnies, and even kayaks, making it ideal for a laid-back
day on the water. The ramp itself is a bit of a mix: there’s a gravel section
leading down, some old concrete, and a grassy riverbank around where an old
barge used to sit. It’s not flashy, but it gets the job done.
This ramp is a
favourite with local fishers and boaters, offering quick and easy access to the
Manning River, which is well-known for bream, flathead, and a whole bunch of
other fish species. If you’re heading out, just keep in mind that the water
levels can vary, so it’s a good idea to check the tides before launching.
Parking is limited, so
if you’re towing a trailer, you might need to get in early to snag a good spot.
That said, the area has a relaxed vibe and rarely feels overcrowded.
Right next to the ramp
is the Manning Waters Reserve, a lovely, well-maintained picnic area with shady
spots, picnic tables, and plenty of grass to spread out on. It’s perfect if you
want to take a break from the boat or just chill riverside for the day. The
scenery is classic country NSW; lush greenery, birdlife, and a peaceful river
setting. You can even bring your dog, take a walk, or go for a swim if the
weather’s right.
One thing to note:
while the reserve has great picnic facilities, it lacks toilets, so plan ahead
if you’re bringing the family along. Still, this spot is a winner for locals
looking for an easy access point to the river or a quiet afternoon outdoors.
Whether you’re
launching your boat, casting a line, or simply soaking up the surroundings, Taree
West Boat Ramp is a chilled-out, friendly spot that ticks all the boxes for a
relaxing riverside day.
