Bundilla Beach, formerly known as Vesteys Beach, is a well-loved boating and recreation spot on Fannie Bay, Darwin. With two public boat ramps and home to the Darwin Ski Club, Trailer Boat Club, and Sailing Club, it’s a go-to location for launching boats and enjoying the water.
One of the two ramps in the area, the Vesteys Beach Boat Ramp, is a single-lane concrete ramp that provides direct access to the sea. It’s smaller than the other ramp, allowing only one boat to launch at a time, and is best suited for small to medium-sized boats and PWCs. Keep in mind that this ramp is only accessible at tides above 3.5 metres, so checking the tide charts before heading out is a must.
Parking is limited, but the surrounding area is a scenic park, perfect for seaside strolls. The free day-use area nearby offers toilets, showers, and drinking water, making it a convenient stop for visitors. While camping and overnight parking aren’t allowed, there’s plenty to enjoy, including a lagoon with a children’s playground.
Nearby, the Darwin Trailer Boat Club and Darwin Sailing Club have their own ramps, but these are exclusive to members.
The beach itself has a 100m-wide, moderately steep high tide section that extends into 400m of tidal flats, eventually leading to low bluffs at the end.
A word of caution: certain times of the year bring sharks, box jellyfish, and crocodiles into the waters, so swimming isn’t recommended during these periods.
Exciting upgrades are also in the works for Bundilla Beach. The car park along Atkins Drive will be transformed into a green space, with more public lighting, CCTV, additional toilets, BBQ tables, and shelters being added.
Whether you're here to launch a boat, explore the park, or simply take in the breathtaking Top End sunset, Bundilla Beach is a fantastic spot to enjoy Darwin’s beautiful outdoors.
