Victor Harbor Boat Ramp is a well-maintained and popular launching facility located on the Fleurieu Peninsula, providing direct access to Encounter Bay and the Southern Ocean. The ramp is frequently used by both recreational and commercial boaters, particularly those heading out for fishing, sightseeing, and marine adventures.
Due to its prime location, the ramp offers easy access to local islands, including Granite Island, and serves as an excellent starting point for dolphin, seal, and whale-watching trips.
The boat ramp features a small, single-lane concrete ramp that extends into the sandy beach, allowing for the launching and retrieval of small boats. However, please note that there is no jetty or pontoon, so caution is advised when using the ramp. Additionally, the ramp can be affected by tidal and wind conditions, so it's essential to check the tide charts before launching.
NOTE: The ramp is closed to the public until further notice as the Department for Infrastructure and Transport are investigating the existing conditions of the site and will take place between the foreshore and beachline (on Victor Harbor land side) leading to the Granite Island Causeway.
Adjacent to the ramp, there is a car park dedicated to car and trailer parking, with space available for caravans and motorhomes as well. Car-only parking is separated for convenience.
The surrounding area is a fun and exciting place to explore. Visitors can enjoy various activities, including:
Camel rides along the beach
Playing at the mini golf park
Riding the Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tramway, which takes you on a scenic ride across the causeway to Granite Island, gently pulled by a magnificent Clydesdale horse
Walking the bridge to Granite Island (located right beside the tramway)
Enjoying food stands and dining areas
Biking around the harbor
Having a picnic on the beach or in the nearby park reserves
Using the barbecue stations by the GT Fisher playground, where kids can play
Playing at the arcade
Having fun at the carnival when it is in season
There are several restrooms in the area, so finding one is not an issue.
Victor Harbor Boat Ramp is highly rated for its accessibility and infrastructure, making it a great choice for boaters of all experience levels. The surrounding waters offer a mix of inshore and offshore fishing opportunities, along with breathtaking coastal scenery.
