Wally’s Boat Ramp, located in Allestree just northeast of Portland, is a simple sandy beach launch that provides direct access to the ocean. The ramp has no lane dividers and is best suited for smaller boats up to around five metres. As it’s a beach launch, a 4WD vehicle is recommended, and conditions are safest in calm weather. At high tide, the beach area disappears, making launching and retrieving more challenging, especially with side swells.
There’s a parking area nearby with room for cars and trailers, and while you’re allowed to drive onto the beach for launching, general vehicle access on the sand is restricted and monitored by local authorities.
Plan your visit too, as there are no nearby amenities or stores within the area.
Despite its simplicity, Wally’s is a popular local spot for both boating and beach fishing. The fishing here is excellent, and many boaters appreciate the ease of access and the relaxed coastal setting.
Beyond its practical use, the area also offers a pleasant lookout over the water, perfect for a quiet moment by the sea or watching the boats come and go.
